Idea 11: Resources for parents and families

There is confusion among parents around how much physical activity their children should be doing and a lack of confidence/ideas for how to encourage this.

The idea is to work alongside partners who are present at different stages of child development to create resources that help parents to build activity into their family lives in manageable ways. Focusing on information, encouragement and support it could involve working with trusted channels and messengers e.g. celebrity parents and family brands. Resources could include things like:

·       Simplifying the concept of physical literacy for parents and showing how to support children in early years to build capabilities and healthy habits for life.

·       Embedding SPA as an everyday leisure activity for the whole family. Looking beyond traditional sport, encouraging active play in a realistic way for families.

·       Education and awareness-raising directed at parents on ideal activity amount and examples of what constitutes physical activity, for instance going for a walk.
