Privacy Statement


We, BritainThinks, (hereinafter “We” or “Us”) welcome you to our Online Consultation Website (we will call it our “Website” from here on).

Our Website is an interactive online space. Before you log on and start participating, please read the rules below and agree to this privacy statement. It explains your rights while using our Website.

We take your privacy very seriously. We want you to know what information we will be gathering, what we're using it for, and how long we'll keep it. We promise we won't gather more than we need or keep any of your personal information longer than necessary to carry out the project you agreed to participate in. 

You can read a description of the personal information we gather, its uses, and how long we keep it below. If you have any questions or concerns about privacy, please contact our Data Protection Officer Simon Ghent at sghent@britainthinks.com.

Although we promise never to change our privacy obligations without telling you, these terms of use may change from time to time. Please check back here to keep yourself updated.

Sport England, BritainThinks, and Go Vocal

·      This Website has been created on behalf of Sport England, for their research project. Sport England will be the controller over your personal data.

·      BritainThinks will be managing this research project. They are a joint controller of your personal data.

·      BritainThinks will have direct access to this Website and any of your personal information that may be stored within it. Sport England will not have any access.

·      CitizenLab, who designed the software that powers this Website, will not be using your personal data. However, by virtue of them creating and powering the Website that your personal data will be shared and stored in, they are a sub-processer of your personal data.

What categories of personal data will BritainThinks and Sport England collect about you?

We will be collecting the following categories of personal data about you:

·      Your name, role, organisation, policy area, sector, email address.

·      Your views, attitudes and observations about your own lifestyle, particularly your experiences of physical activity, sport and exercise in the current Covid-19 pandemic; and Sport England’s strategy, including your level of familiarity and interactions with Sport England.

·      Your age, gender, area that you live in, any long-standing physical or mental health impairments, illnesses or disabilities you may have, your ethnic group or background. Responses to those questions are optional.

What is the lawful basis for processing your personal data?

We are conducting this research on behalf of Sport England so that they can gain feedback on their high-level strategy. This research will help Sport England support you and the rest of the nation better by designing and targeting the support and resources we can provide to the groups who really need it. It is important to Sport England to hear from all parts of the population which is why we have collected some basic information about who you are. 

·      BritainThinks need to collect and use personal data in order to carry out the evaluation on Sport England’s behalf. Collecting this personal data is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interestThe lawful basis is Article 6f (Public task).

·      BritainThinks will ask questions which may indirectly require you to provide some sensitive information about yourself (such as ethnicity and health data). These are called special category data and need special care in processing them. The lawful basis for processing these data is your consent to do so. You can choose not to answer these questions. 

·      The research is being carried out in compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018. 

How will your personal data be used?

By agreeing to this Privacy Statement, you also agree and consent to BritainThinks and Sport England’s use of your personal data only in the following ways:

a.     To ensure we have gathered a range of participants within the group for research;

b.     To send you personalised logins and passwords to access the website;

c.     To analyse your responses.

What are your rights to your personal data?

·      You have the right to access any personal data held by BritainThinks or Sport England, at any time when the data is held in a way which could identify you. You will not be able to access your personal data once BritainThinks has removed it. 

·      When the data are held in a way which could identify you, you can also ask us to stop processing your data and can ask us to correct the information we hold about you.  If, at any stage, you wish to withdraw your consent for any collection or any use of your personal data, you can do so by email to BritainThinks (sghent@britainthinks.com).

·      You have the right to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office (the ‘ICO’) if you have concerns about how BritainThinks have processed your personal data. How long will your personal data and identifiable responses be retained? 

·      Sport England will only hold the data collected as part of evaluation in a way that cannot identify you for as long as is necessary to support the research project and findings. 

·      Your personal data will be deleted or anonymized within six (6) months of BritainThinks completing the project.

·      Your personal data may also be deleted within seven (7) days upon your written request to BritainThinks (sghent@britainthinks.com

·      Go Vocal will permanently purge all site data within four weeks of the research project ending.
